Spark of Inspiration Propelled Struggling Studio to Global Fame 

Keplerians was founded in 2013, but initially struggled to gain a foothold in the highly competitive games industry, forcing them to reevaluate. Then they identified a niche: unlike with PC and console games, there were few horror games on the mobile market. Their breakthrough game Evil Nun, released in July 2018, was a massive success in terms of both player satisfaction and revenue: the studio had found its path.

The team turned their attention to revenue optimization shortly after the launch of their second adventure about the bloodthirsty zombie butcher Mr. Meat. Up to this point, they had gotten as far as they had juggling check graphs and data in Ironsource. His passion inspired him to create Time Plus Q Studios in 2011 with two friends and fellow gamers. Muhammad Asad Imran was awaiting the results of his 12th standard exams when his career path took an unexpected turn in the spring of 2020. University admissions were delayed due to the Coronavirus outbreak, and he had a lot of free time–that’s when the idea of creating a game studio took shape. 

“Instead of wasting time,” his cousin suggested, “why not make mobile games and put them on the app stores? It was the love of RPGs and horror PC games that convinced Vadim Bogdanov and his wife to learn everything they could about game development back in 2010. By doing so, they hoped to realize a shared dream of building their very own cool story game. 

With this ambition in mind, Vadim spent the next ten years learning everything he could about game engines and design while working for different game studios. Meanwhile, his wife got busy completing educational courses in UI/UX. The husband and wife team wanted to reach a point where the entire family could be involved in the adventure. It would include their 11-year-old son who is talented in 3D modeling, and their 8-year-old daughter, an excellent follower of game trends.

A new chapter in the family’s history began in the spring of 2021 with the creation of a new family business - Calamansi Studio. By combining the family’s abilities, they hoped to create something unique and interesting. “We have a lot of fun playing and making games,” explains Vadim. “For us, every new idea was a great experience and another chance to make others happy.”

Calamansi Studio faced two sizeable challenges early on: publishing stand-out games with broad appeal, and game monetization.

Vadim tried several monetization platforms and had difficulties with them all in one way or another. The main problem was with game integration. Some service providers require a separate sign-up and approach for each network (hard mediation). In these situations, correct implementation is only possible if the user has a lot of experience.

Close Cooperation Through MAS Helps AK Studios Thrive

3D artist Muhammad Tabassum Akhtar from Lahore, Pakistan, worked in the game industry for several years before he was inspired to create a game of his own. His approach to game creation was simple: identify a growing game trend and exploit it. Tabassum established AK Studio in August 2020 with the creation of his first pop it game, Fidget Toys Pop It ASMR.  

Getting Technical Assistance From Previous Ad Network was a Challenge

Tabassum’s first attempt to monetize was through Google Admob. While the game did indeed generate revenue, it was not nearly enough to make a full-time living. He also found that getting assistance when he ran into difficulties with revenue optimization could be difficult.

However, the developer and CEO acknowledged that creating a successful game is not without its core challenges. One of the most urgent of which was the need to optimize monetization.
